Our Story Begins With a Simple Belief
At MITTO, we believe the best moments in life usually happen around a table. Food has a gentle way of bringing people closer. It makes conversations warmer, memories brighter and days feel a little more meaningful.
MITTO was created with this belief at the centre.
Our name comes from the word "Meet", reimagined through a Japanese sensibility. The idea is simple. When people meet each other with openness and warmth, something special always follows. That is the heart of MITTO.
A Meeting Point Between Two Cultures
MITTO is shaped by the deep hospitality traditions of Japan and the vibrant openness of Australia. These two cultures share a respect for quality, simplicity and genuine connection. Bringing them together felt natural and honest.

A Historic Home Filled With Quiet Beauty
MITTO is located inside a heritage-listed 1890s police station in The Rocks. The walls hold stories of old Sydney. The stone texture brings a sense of grounding. The structure itself carries years of character.
Inside, a different story unfolds. Japanese design principles soften the heaviness of the stone. Light becomes a gentle guide. A soft path of light known as Hikari no Michi welcomes every guest into the space.
This combination of old and new creates a setting that feels timeless and calm. A place where you instantly feel comfortable.
Our Approach to Food
Food at MITTO is created with intention. We use Japanese techniques that focus on purity, balance and detail, paired with the best Australian ingredients found in our region.
